Around 14 years ago I was pregnant with Tyler. Happily going along my pregnancy without any problems at all. I was enjoying my pregnancy, planning, decorating the nursery and just generally enjoying my bump. Until one midwives appointment!
‘I am sorry but I am going to have to send you up to the maternity hospital as your blood pressure is very high’
This was completely unexpected and very scary. I didn’t have a clue about what was happening and what was wrong. I didn’t leave the hospital from that day until Tyler came home with us 3 weeks later! I had been diagnosed with really bad Pre-Eclampsia. We managed to keep it controlled enough until 36 weeks when my kidneys were starting to give up so out he came!
Blood pressure to me is very important, with my history and family history, I feel I should make sure I keep mine under control. It’s such an easy way to monitor your health and make sure things are running smoothly. When I was pregnant with my twins 4 years later I purchased a small blood pressure monitor to monitor my own blood pressure at home. It was a perfect way to keep an eye on things myself and to be able to flag anything up quickly before any of us were at any risk.
Braun ActivScan 9 Review
I recently have started to monitor my blood pressure with the brilliant Braun ActivScan™ 9 this is a very easy to use blood pressure monitor that you are able to use in the comfort of your own home. We know that when we visit the doctors our blood pressure has usually been risen with the traffic getting there, making sure we arrive on time and then the worry of seeing the doctor! So being able to monitor you blood pressure in the comfort of your home will provide much better readings.
I even noticed the difference in my readings if I took it straight after pottering around doing stuff and then taking it again once I had been sat down for a few minutes.
Ease Of Use
The Braun ActivScan 9 is so simple to use. The cuff has a pinch and open design that is just slipped over your upper arm, with the cuff wrapped underneath and velcro on to secure. The Braun ActivScan 9 even shows you through pictures on the screen how to attach and the positioning. It couldn’t be any simpler.
I was really surprised by just how easy to use it was. My husbands Auntie is in her late 70’s and monitors her blood pressure very regularly. I considered this product for her, but I thought it would be too difficult to use as it’s digital and more modern than the one she has been using. However I do think this would be even easier for her to use.
The Braun ActivScan 9 has built in functions to monitor your blood pressure regularly. The calendar documents your readings, even if you take more than one in a day. This is brilliant way to track your blood pressure and with up to 200 readings being stored within the product its self. You also are able to add on 2 users, this means I can now monitor both mine and my husbands recordings, with up to 200 readings each user.
High blood pressure and heart conditions is something that runs in my family, so it is really important to me to be able to lead a least stressful life as possible! Not always easy is it when you have 3 kids, a husband, working for myself and a dog! It is something I need to work on though as higher blood pressure increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks. I happily monitor the steps I have achieved that day, but it didn’t enter my head to monitor my heart heath until now.
The ActivScan 9 is not only easy to use, but it is easy to understand. The results are always coloured coded, green, yellow and red. On a few instances I have got a yellow reading, but I’ve always been able to pin pointed to a moment in my life where it’s been a little stressful! After 5 minutes of a sit down and chill, I would take another reading and it had gone back down to green. As all these readings are tracked in the calendar, I can monitor if there are certain days where my blood pressure is raised, meaning I can make some changes to my lifestyle.
Healthy Heart App
Braun have also got a Healthy Heart app that connects up to the monitor, it stores all your readings so you’re able to access these from anywhere. Take it along to your doctor’s appointment to show them all your readings with ease. You also can input your daily mood, exercise, sleep and diet information. Being able to track in detail if there are any triggers in your high blood pressure readings. You really can take control over your own heart heath.
I have really enjoyed being able to monitor my blood pressure and it’s been so easy to do with the Braun ActivScan 9. Priced at £149.99 it isn’t a cheap product, but the build quality and convenience of having everything in one place, I feel it really is worth this price.
Is blood pressure something you are concerned about? Or is it something you’ve even thought about?
